The week before launch, my co-worker Austen and I were able to check out the Wii in EBX at Washington Square. We went during our lunch break. The menu system was fine, about what I expected. One nice surprise was that you can turn your cursor upside down simply by rotating the remote upside down. Nice touch.
The only game available was Excite Truck. The controls were great, tilt controller to turn and for pitch in the air, button 2 for gas, button 1 for break (not that I used it), and any direction on the dpad for turbo boost. We had a great time racing each other, and the courses were pretty awesome. The graphics weren't quite what I would have hoped, but good enough for what the game is. The course design was very diverse, featuring areas with dense trees, plateaus, different ways to go, etc. Controls and course design were defiantely my favorite things about it.
Oh, one last thing. It was fun. It was so fun that I just wanted to go back. That is how games should be.
More impressions soon.
